Anybody learn via the Eric Meyer CSS books / Lectures? He came recommended by AIGA so I took it up with him as a resource. I'm an amateur but he makes good points - at least from a design standpoint. I'm still fairly ****ty - but happy not to be slicing images as much!

Yeah, I read his first book: Eric Meyer on CSS a little over a year ago as my introduction to CSS. It's a great place to start.
I built a CSS site immediately after, and while I look at it now and can see lots of improvements I'd make - it does show I'd learnt at least the basics of good practice from Eric's book.

I learnt CSS on the web ages ago, but the first bought I actually bought was Zeldman's "Designing with Web Standards". Good read if you can get it, for sure.

Zeldman's is a good book too - but I don't think you can learn too much CSS from it. An important read in understanding why you SHOULD use CSS and how to best structure your sites with it. But personally I'd still read the Eric Meyer book to start learning CSS.

The new CSS Mastery book by Andy Budd is great. Lots of great examples. Zeldman's book is great for more theory.

I never read books on any language; learnt CSS by looking at the page source of nice looking sites :D

I've also learnt most of what I know primarily from poking under the bonnet of gorgeous sites featured on CSS galleries and from articles and entries on designers' blogs. I'd love to start up a library of CSS books someday though. One can never learn enough . :-)

I did the same thing aswell, only thing is that I found myself getting results without actually fully understanding some things. So I`ve ordered the new andy budd, css mastery last week and look forward to reading it :D

I'll second that. Andy Budd wrote a great book. But I won't recommend it to a beginner. Only if you're comfortable with CSS should you go into that book.

I bought both "css mastery" and "the zen of css design" last week and read them in a couple of hours, I couldn't stop reading!
the zen... is a very inspirational book
css mastery is nice but not for the beginner...
I'd like to thank Nemus for the tip ;)

Man I've seen a couple people say that css mastery isn't for the beginner, but I thought all the examples, pictures, and walk throughs were well done enough that it got me up to speed. I always tell people its the book to get from zero to hero in no time. I barely knew any css and dove in and found it very easily explained. Maybe its just me though?

I'll be reading CSS Mastery this weekend, then i'll have more input on this topic :o) - Most of my learning was from trial and error and seeing other peoples work.

I've found that all these books are really great to expanding CSS knowledge (CSS Mastery, Zen off CSS Design, Designing With Web Standards) but my current personal favorite is Andy Clarke's Transcending CSS - its really well written and I found the content most applicable to my day-to-day CSS needs, the projects are useful and encouraging - I really recommend that one.

I have met Eric Meyer a couple of times at seminars and he is a really nice guy. He doesn't do anything extraordinary with his css but he has a wealth of experience behind him that makes his css solid.
