I like the design. But the top part looks a bit cluttered to me. Like you tried putting too much is too little space.

Along with meesa's comments i would shrink that top portion (the office supplies). They really overpower everything - even once you get past it and start reading the site. My eyes are continuously drawn to the top and i can't focus on the text in the body of the site.

A darker background might make that really pop of the page.

I agree with all of the coments above. I would especially agree too that the background being darker coud improve things a bit. It would help ground the page a bit more. Even a background that is dark grey may work, or a nice dark blue.

In regards to the things at the top of the site, why not make a banner in Photoshop with a specific width, add all of the materials around the name at the top (shrinking them a bit) and add a vignette over them to put less emphasis on them. Then maybe only add one thing outside of that box, such as replacing the Mac mouse with that sticky-note. Don't know if it would work, just ruminating.
