Re: Container and text question

That div doesn't have a class of title. It has an ID of title.

Re: Newbie doubt

That's because the first selector (table td) has a higher specificity, so the browser will implement it over the class name. Change the second selector to: table td.first_td and see if that works for...

Re: Class text not working

It sets color for text, text-decoration and if you don't specify a color with border and some other properties, it uses color for that as well, IIRC.

Re: Class text not working

I like foreground-color simply because CSS uses the color property for more than just font colors. font-color would work if they also added another property to address the other uses.

Re: Class text not working

color really should be foreground-color in the spec. It would avoid this confusion and add actual meaning to the property name.

Re: Padding of Unknown Origin

I think you've misunderstood something. With inline/inline-block elements, if there's a space or line break in the HTML, it will cause space to show up after the element.

Re: Padding of Unknown Origin

Believe it or not, the line break between the elements is being added as a space, and that's adding the line.

Re: Live after building a website

If it's just a static HTML site, there are plenty of $5/month hosts. I've used Hostgator before, pretty sure they still have a $5-8 plan. They aren't the best, but they'll do for a static site.

Re: Have a background image with a transparent colour

background-image:linear-gradient(to bottom, rgba(169,169,169,0.5) 0%,rgba(169,169,169,0.5) 100%),
url('mylocation');
This is a simplified version, so you'll have to add the prefixed versions of...

Re: CSS in array

I'm no PHP expert, but I'm quite certain there's some characters in there that require escaping.

Is there a particular issue that you're having, or are you just looking for guidance on how to go about this?

Re: Setting a custom background on a wordpress widget.

That's because you added a # before section. Section isn't an ID, it's a tag.
section.widget_newsletterwidget {
background: #699135;
color: red;
}

Re: Setting a custom background on a wordpress widget.

I don't see the newsletter widget on there. In WP, widgets are usually set in an aside, and they'll have a class you can use to select it.

Re: Tools of the Trade

I was pretty happy to discover that HTML5 supported XHTML format when it first came out. HTML4 was too forgiving if you ask me.

Tools of the Trade

I've always kinda liked the old "what tools do you use" threads. Mostly because it lets me gauge the state of the art. It's been a while since someone asked, so what are you using these days?

I've...

Re: A White Background is Covering Up the Top Navigation links on every page

This is happening because you're using a wrapper div with no set width, which is sizing to the width of the screen, but the content div is set to a static 1000px, so it's overflowing the wrapper div....

Re: Custom shapped Div options?

Add the point at the end using the ::after pseudo-element. Then, just let the width of the rest flow with the content.

It's *probably* your negative margins and/or negative top offsets. You're essentially pulling the element up out of its container element when you do that, and I've had it cause me some trouble in...

Not sure which image you're talking about. Looks fine for me in Chrome.

Let's go this route: Check your analytics to see if it's even worth your time to worry about IE8. I'd bet the visitor...
