Default Salt and hash question

Hello

How would I introduce salting and hashing of usernames, passwords, and email addresses in ASP.NET (VB)? I have a 'new user' registration form (ASPX) in Visual Studio 2013 that inserts the username, password, and email address into an MS Access database.

In the database, these appear as, for example:

Username: johnjones
Password: donaldduck
Email: J.jones@wherever.com

I need to salt and hash those three columns in my database.

Thank you.

Well, first off, it does no good to store that information unless you have no reason to see it. The username can stay as plain text. the password would be something to salt and hash, and if you don't want to store the email as plaintext, then encrypt it, otherwise you'll never be able to use. it.

Second, to do those things isn't a quick username.saltAndHash() method. You'll need to do some research on the available options for doing such things.

OK, thanks. I just wasn't sure if Visual Studio had a built-in means of salting and hashing.

Not that I'm aware of, but a quick Google search should answer that one.
