what's the difference between when you put a non-breaking space inside an empty div and when you don't?

Good question, especially when you find them in my code
Let's say you have a div element that has borders and background set but no width or height defined. If there is no content in that div, you won't see anything. The non-breaking space serves as a dummy content so you can visualize your div. I find it handy when I code, but I don't usually leave it when published because it is considered dirty coding since the content is used as presentation. |
